Bob Lyons, P.E., Vice President of Engineering
Lyons is a registered P.E. in 16 states. He holds a B.S.E.E. from Missouri University of Science and Technology and is an NCEES Record Member.
Lyons is PE of record for all engineering services.
With 14 years in the design consulting industry, Lyons is responsible for electrical and communication construction drawings, specifications, cost estimates, submittal reviews, and field inspections.
Former employment in telecommunications includes Systems Engineer with Faith Group, Stantec Consulting, Pulse Broadband, Burns and McDonnell, Advantage Engineering, Worldcom.
Dana McCarthy, President and CEO
McCarthy earned a B.A. from Drake University. Her areas of expertise are Business Planning, Accounting, Human Resources, Marketing, and Marketing Communications.
McCarthy held marketing management positions with NCMIC Group, Junior Achievement of Central Iowa, Downtown Des Moines Chamber of Commerce, Adventure Lands of America, Business Publications (Business Record & City View), and the Iowa Department of Economic Development.
She also earned a certificate of graduation from the American Bankers Association School of Bank Marketing and the American Society for Training & Development.
Jim Petro, Owner/Engineer
Petro is a Charter Member of CableLabs, a Senior Member for the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers, and holds a B.S.E.E. from the University of New Haven.
Petro develops and manages programs for technology integration, engineering compliance, and quality measures for all NewCom produced work. He was Director of Outside Plant Engineering, McLeodUSA, Cedar Rapids, Vice President of Engineering and Operations for Heritage Communications, the Des Moines MSO that served more than 1-million subscribers.
Petro founded NewCom in 1995 to assist telecommunications operators engineer, design, maintain, and manage their OSP using dynamic GIS technology for efficient plant design and data integration.
John Wilkins, Co-Founder/Director of Network Design
John Wilkins has designed more than 60,000 miles of broadband including 25,000 of FTTX in the U.S. and Canada, and is a member of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers.
Wilkins is currently NewCom’s master designer with expertise in design computational software as well as enterprise-wide network documentation software.
Wilkins was formerly Senior Manager, OSP and Director of Network Design, McLeodUSA; Corporate Network Design Manager, New Heritage Associates; Corporate Network Design Manager, Heritage Communications
Ken Demlow, Vice President of National Market Development
Demlow has more than 30 years in construction management, GIS, and technology. He held sales management positions with Beehive Industries, Millstone Inc, Moore Utility Construction, and Progressive Construction. Demlow received a B.A. from Franklin College.
Demlow authored Leveraging Broadband for Economic Development for Broadband Communitities magazine, and written NewCom white papers for Smart Meter Installation Plan, GIS for Telecom, and GIS the Essential Utility Management Tool.
Mike Skifton, Director of Field Services
Skifton comes from the power line industry with more than 18 years as a licensed journeyman for Wisconsin Rapids.
Skifton is client liaison with power plant owners, manages field services, and make ready engineering. Skifton graduated from Mid-State Technical College and is a U.S. Army combat veteran.
Siva Chinniah, Vice President of Software Development
Chinniah designed NewCom’s SeeCity, Smart Meter Upgrade Management tool, and the Voyager Android Data Collection tool (which integrates any field collection data into various OSP design/management GIS platforms and plant management software). He has extensive experience in development of Geographic Information Systems for management of utilities and services. Including software development to integrate data across various plant management systems.
In addition, he has a Masters in GIS from Western Michigan University, B.S. in Mathematics, Post-graduate Diploma in Computer Science from University Malaya (top university in Malaysia), and has published an article in a peer-reviewed GIScience and Remote Sensing journal outlining a method to potentially retrieve imagery using Content-based Image Retrieval from a large spatial database
